Information
Marble is a metamorphic calciferous rock formed from crystallized grains of calcite and dolomite. In marble, the crystals are integrated into the structure after prolonged metamorphic transformation at high temperature and great pressure. This geological context and the fineness of the grain mean this stone is extremely hard and well suited for polishing.
Our selection
With a total annual production estimated at almost 3 million tons, Portugal is today one of the world's leading producers of ornamental stone. The growth in production has accelerated strongly since the 1980s due to better organization of extraction and transformation activities, which up till then were relatively haphazard.
