Schists ans Slates

Schists are very hard rocks, resistant to frost, formed in clay deposits consisting of hydrated aluminium silicates, often mixed with quartz and mica.

Slates are very hard clayey schists with a very fine grain which, after undergoing geological folding and pressure, appear in the form of layers: blocks of slate.
